About This Site
Top Back Pain Relief is written by a retired letter carrier who has spent years managing a stiff, cranky lower back at home. We test heating pads, massage guns, lumbar support pillows, foam rollers and TENS units in a real living room, car and garage gym, and we write down what actually helps on an ordinary day, what gets used after the second week, and what was not worth the money.

Health and Safety
Nothing on this site is medical advice, and none of these products diagnose, treat or cure any condition. Back pain can have serious causes. See a doctor or a licensed physical therapist before starting a new routine, and right away if you have pain after a fall or accident, numbness or tingling down a leg, weakness in a leg or foot, loss of bladder or bowel control, fever, unexplained weight loss, or pain that is getting worse instead of better.
Heat can burn. Use a heating pad on its lower settings, keep a layer of fabric between the pad and your skin, never fall asleep on a pad without an auto shut-off, and do not use heat on numb skin, broken skin or a fresh injury. People with diabetes or reduced sensation should ask a clinician first. Never fold, crush or use a pad with a damaged cord.
Massage guns and foam rollers should go on muscle, not bone, the spine itself, the neck's front and sides, joints, varicose veins, bruises or recent injuries. Start on the lowest setting for short sessions. Ask a doctor first if you take blood thinners, are pregnant, or have osteoporosis.
TENS units are not for everyone. Do not use one if you have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or other implanted electronic device, a heart condition, epilepsy, or are pregnant, unless your doctor says it is safe. Never place pads on the front or sides of the neck, across the chest, over the head, on broken skin, or while driving, bathing or sleeping. Follow the device's own instructions for pad placement and intensity.
